Battle Ducks
About:
Battle Ducks is a small computer game written in the Java programming language exclusively for Apple computers running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later and the latest version of Java. The game is a version of the classic board game Battleship, except with ducks. The program uses a grid and commands selected by the user to attack the enemy ducks in an attempt to sink them all.

History:
Battle Ducks was originally going to be named Battleship, however the idea was later changed as the program began to be written. The game took over two weeks to complete its BETA form. A Stable version of the game has yet to be released. Visit the OTBSoft Blog for the latest information.

FAQ:
Q: Why chose “Battle Ducks” as the name of the game?
A: Because we thought we could write a smaller, less complex program that way. And because ducks are cool.

Q: Why is the program written in Java?
A: Currently, that is the only programming language OTBSoft writers have experience with. Native Mac OS X Cocoa programs will be coming soon.

Q: Why is the program only for Macs?
A: Because currently it is easy for us to make Mac programs. Windows program will require more work than we are currently capable of handling.

Q: What about Mac OS 9 or below (classic)?
A: No, since the latest version of Java is needed to be installed, Mac OS 9 or below is unable to run such an advanced version of Java.

Q: Will a Windows version ever be made?
A: Yes, we are currently in the process of trying to make one. Since windows uses .exe programs, the .jar Java programs will not run efficiently, yet.

Tech info:
Battle Ducks is written in Java and then compiled into a .jar Java executable program. The .jar file is then taken into the Apple “Jar Bundler” and a .app program is created that seems to be a native Mac OS X program. OTBPix icons are used as the program’s icon. The files take up less than 1 MB of disc space and very little RAM.

A new game has started. The user’s ducks can be seen on the user’s play grid.

The user has just won the game. A pop-up window appears to congratulate you and by pressing “OK” the game is re-set.
